Great Exhibition of Portuguese Wines opens today in Albufeira
The best Portuguese wines are on display at the EMA - Albufeira's Multipurpose Space, in the 12th edition of the Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal, which runs from today until next Sunday, May 14.
The event is organized by the Albufeira Bacchus Brotherhood in partnership with the municipality.
According to the Albufeira City Council, "this is one of the most renowned events of its kind in Portugal, interrupted for two years because of the pandemic, and which in its last edition had more than a hundred exhibitors and nine thousand participants. It's an excellent opportunity to taste and buy the best Portuguese wines".
The event, which sees the participation of more than a hundred producers from the most varied wine regions in Portugal, "is already considered one of the most respected and visited wine shows in the country, and has been growing year on year, both in terms of visitors and exhibitors", says the mayor of Albufeira.
José Carlos Rolo recalls that "wine represents an important slice of national exports, and the Algarve and Albufeira in particular have played an important role in this area, with the wine sector being an excellent complement to sun and beach tourism".
This Friday, the doors are open between 15h00 and 20h00. On the remaining days (the 13th and 14th), the show closes later, at 21:30.
Over the course of three days, winegrowers, winemakers, industry and catering professionals, as well as wine lovers in general - not forgetting the Portuguese and foreign tourists visiting the region - will have an excellent opportunity to taste and buy both great national brands and wines from small producers that are not usually on sale through the usual channels. "This is also one of the secrets of the success of the Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal," says the local authority.
At the same time, the show also promotes other regional products, such as olive oil and delicacies prepared by top chefs from the Algarve, in various show cookings.
Dishes are presented that combine good wine with the best of Portuguese gastronomy, in a tribute to the Mediterranean diet.
